I’m Carson Rickard—a man in a season of growth I didn’t expect, but one that is shaping me. Life doesn’t always unfold the way we plan. Sometimes the very seasons we would never choose become the ones that change us the most, offering valuable lessons in overcoming setbacks. 

Scripture reminds us that even in confinement, purpose is never lost. Men like Joseph and Paul navigated seasons that appeared to be setbacks—but were actually preparation for something greater. This perspective has transformed everything for me. In this season, I’ve made a decision: I will not waste it. 

Instead, I’ve committed to faith-based growth—strengthening my faith, renewing my mind, and developing discipline in trading like never before. What once felt like limitation has evolved into a time of reflection, clarity, and rebuilding. Before this season, I dedicated considerable time to studying the financial markets. 

I didn’t just scratch the surface—I immersed myself to understand the fundamentals, the language, the patterns, and the discipline in trading. Over time, I developed a robust working knowledge and found success trading on my own. However, I realized that success without the right foundation could veer off course. At one point, things took a direction I never intended. 

That experience compelled me to reflect on my journey in a way most people shy away from—but it shaped me more profoundly than success alone could. It taught me discipline, not just in trading, but in life as a whole. Because knowledge alone isn’t what sustains you; discipline does. And that’s the foundation I’m building on now. I’ve also stepped into something I didn’t expect—writing, sharing, and documenting my journey. Not because I have it all figured out, but because I understand the feeling of searching for direction, purpose, and hope. 

If my journey resonates with even one person who feels stuck, overlooked, or forgotten—then this season has meaning far beyond myself. The truth is… people will form their opinions and share their version of your story. They may misunderstand or celebrate what they believe is your downfall. But God sees what others overlook. 

He sees the private battles, the restraint, and the growth happening when no one is watching. 

And He is not finished. 

Because even when others author their version of your story, God is the ultimate author. What they view as an ending, He is using as a beginning. I’m choosing to move forward with faith, discipline, and purpose—trusting that every step I take is part of something greater being constructed. 

In time, I’ll share more of what I’ve learned—both in the markets and in life—through a project called Discipline Over Dollars. Not as advice, but as understanding.
